I can’t think why I’d been baking when we were camping at the San Clemente State Park on the beautiful southern California coast just south of Los Angeles but the scent of ginger had caught the attention of the local residents.
We were having lunch in Florida and a bird stole a French fry as my sister-in-law was eating. It was halfway from her plate to her mouth. She yelled. We threw our hats. She was not amused. 😯
These little guys have serious sniffers. I have had one inside my back pack at a climbing crag. He was after my trail mix. Not sure who got a bigger surprise upon our meeting. 🙂
There was definitely screaming…I think it was me and not the squirrel. He high tailed it out in a hurry. The funny thing is that not ten minutes later the little brat was back sniffing at my pack again. Relentless rodent! 🙂
hee hee! so super cute! I love feeding these guys by hand even though I know we’re not supposed to like them. We have an albino one nearby too which is pretty cool.
Squirrels are devilish little thieves. I once put a freshly baked pie outside to cool. Some time later when I went back to retrieve it, I found its entire outer rim had been methodically nibbled off. It had never occurred to me that a squirrel would like pie – Husband was not amused 🙂
They don’t take much encouragement. We fed them peanuts when we were camped in WA but commented that we would never have done that if we’d been at home. I hope the permanent residents aren’t still cursing us!
Oh, I love squirrels, never see them here or in Australia. I did see one when I lived in the UK from 2002-4 and was SO excited! And Bulldog – congratulations on the poetry, ginger biscuits are obviously inspiring!
This editing is not easy… I send chapters to the Editor as I finish them and she sends them back faster than I can keep up… but she is brilliant and the returned portions are just “out of this world” good… but when one is seeing double and then it becomes treble, it is time to have a look at something else…
I tell ya, my little RV oven does an amazing job in the baking dept. Although everything needs to be miniaturized…..kind of like an ‘easy bake oven’…..warms the RV too!
Your recent squirrel posts could even make me like these pesky creatures! Until the ground thaws and they start digging up my bulbs again…

They are pests aren’t’ they? They are only cute viewed from a distance. One of them gnawed through a wire on a campsite where we were staying in Florida and the transformer blew up! https://whichwaynow101.wordpress.com/2013/12/02/exploding-pythons/

That was so cute and now I am hungry for ginger biscuits as well, if they are anything like gingersnaps. 🙂

Very similar but not so hard. And tastier of course as they are not store bought. That’s what the squirrels thought.

My gingersnaps are never store-bought either, not that I make many cookies these days.

Best to give them up altogether. Cookies are for kiddies. I’m trying to take delight in a lettuce leaf these days.

Ha! – Cute:) Camping one time and a bird swooped down and stole a pancake to share with the birds and squirrels – pretty funny!

I don’t think I would have liked that one bit! What did you do? Scream? Drop your pack? Sit down and have a little repast together?

it’s actually not so bad. we might have a bit of snow on Sunday but for the most part, winter here has been mild. 🙂

We were a bit mean and didn’t give them ANY! I was afraid they’d start to nibble our toes as we sat on the beach!

That is so funny. Maybe you need to collect up some acorns and try backing them into biscuits for the little folks. LOL!

They seemed happy enough to track down the ginger. I didn’t dare feed them or we would have been overrun!

Very funny BD. I like it 😀 You’re quite the poet but shouldn’t you be putting your brain power into editing? Go get a biscuit and get back to work!
