. . . . . Enveloped in plastic . . .
. . . we took our life in our hands . .
. . . to board Maid of the Mist . . .
. . . and headed into Niagara Falls . . .
. . . and disappeared, enveloped in mist.
This week’s photo challenge is to illustrate the word enveloped. Click here to see other entries to the challenge.
To see Niagara Falls enveloped in snow and ice visit Joanne Sisco’s great post A Winter Day At The Falls.
Haha. Cute interpretation of the challenge.

Carol I know I commented on this post, well I remember writing the comment. Andrew mentioned I showed up in his spam folder yesterday. I’m hoping it’s not a trend. At any rate I have been to Niagara Falls but we did not do the boat tour. It looks like those blue slickers were put to the test!

Oh I am not amused by WordPress suddenly identifying me as spam! Ugh I wonder how many other places I am hiding in. 😦

Maid of the Mist is well worth it; my family used to souvenir ponchos for over a decade before they finally fell apart!

I don’t remember keeping the ponchos. I think they took them back. I guess it brought back a nice memory every time you put them on. 😉

Really nice selection – and I like the blue jackets against the turquoise – also – nice capture of the mist in the air is

yeah – well as you know – it is funny what others notice – and sometimes I htink it because we see them smaller int he reader – and so even at times different shapes or payers int he compositions can be seen – ahhhh… who knows – but I have been to the falls at least 30 times (used to live near it growing up) and have never made the maid of the mists tour – maybe someday…

A rite of passage for anyone who grew up within a 150 km radius of the Falls. 🙂

I grew up within a 250 km radius of Niagara but never went. Our rite of passage was Ocean City MD but the less said about that the better.

250 miles, maybe? No chance any part of MD is 250 kms from the Falls.

Haha haha! Did you know there was a Baltimore in Ontario? I didn’t til now! Looks like I hit the wrong Baltimore.
Ok. So it’s 358 miles. I guess that’s why we went to Ocean City.

Bahahaha! I thought so. If Baltimore were only 2.5 hours from Niagara Falls, then that would mean that NYC would only be 2 hours from me. Which means I would have been there every weekend. 🙂

You wouldn’t want me navigating for you would you?

Oh dear. No. Not navigating. Your job would be to google the coolest places to grab some libations. The GPS would navigate.

My eldest girl went there when she was staying in Pittsburgh for a three month college stint. She loved it and your photos are exactly how she described the falls.

Awww – thanks Carol for the mention! I was thinking how inviting your photos of the falls were at a temperature somewhat warmer than -20C
I did the Maid of The Mist tour many years ago and was rather disappointed that there’s nothing to see because of the enveloping mist. Nor can you hear yourself think over the roar of the water.
I think I’d like to go back again … this time to go behind the Falls. I’ve never done that before 🙂

I’d love to do that too. Himself was recovering from an ACL injury when we were there so we didn’t walk very far. I believe there are a lot of steps down to it which he couldn’t manage.
So can I come with you when you go? I’d love to see Niagara at night too with the coloured lights. Have you done that?

ooo – I’d love to go with you to NF!! … and I’d like to visit at night for the lights too!
… and we could go on some winery tours while we are there 🙂
How soon can you make it? I’m free all week 🙂

When we went (many years ago), the crowd was way smaller and the raincoats were black. Took some pictures that looked like an outing with a black KuKluxKlan. 😉

It was an exciting and unique boat trip. Different to a paddle steamer down the Mississippi! ;-!)

Yes, you get as close to the falls as they get and you realize the engines at full power just to hold you there while your getting soaked.

A powerful experience. I wonder if they’ve ever had an accident? I didn’t think to look that up ahead of time!

I looked on Wkipedia, there have been incidents but nothing that would make you think twice about taking another ride.

I’d love to go again too. Especially after your health and safety research. Ours was too fleeting a visit. I remember leaning on the railing watching the American Falls and being mezmerized. I could have stood there for hours.

An amazing adventure, Carol. I’m not sure that I would be so brave. Did you feel claustrophobic?
LikeLike
We puttered past the American Falls and then tootled around in the horseshoe of the Canadian Falls. We didn’t go behind the Falls but did get ‘lost’ in the mist with the Falls thundering all around us. It was thrilling and a little hair-raising but not claustrophobic.
