A Little Ray of Sunshine

I’ve been nominated for a Sunshine Award! I’ve never thought of myself as someone’s little ray of sunshine. Himself thinks it’s hilarious. Don’t think him unkind. You don’t have to live with me.

My nominator, Joanne took the trouble to research the award so rather than reinvent the wheel I will pass on her words to you.  “It is an award given by bloggers to other bloggers who “positively and creatively inspire others in the blogoshere.”  (Questionable punctuation is mine.)

Gosh. Thanks Joanne for the nomination. You are my little ray of sunshine with your wonderful blog http://mylifelivedfull.wordpress.com/

I am to nominate up to 10 blogs – hard to keep it down to 10 – and think of 10 vaguely interesting things to say about myself – horribly difficult.

I’ve read these types of lists on other blogs and admired the author’s imagination, ability for introspection, self-knowledge and sense of humor. I panicked and blanked at the very thought of it but here goes:

  1. I was The Alien in England for 30 years but I feel like an alien in my own country now. I’m told things move on. Get over it.
  2. I am the only person I know who likes cottage cheese. Isn’t that riveting?
  3. I love words but fear my vocabulary is shrinking.
  4. I’m sure I lived in France in a previous life.
  5. I miss family and friends in my adopted country of England. And my garden. But the garden thing obviously isn’t on a par with family and friends.
  6. I never take myself seriously.
  7. I cooked on a charter yacht in the West Indies for two years. Walter Cronkite chartered that yacht. I can still hear his voice as he read to us each night.
  8. I am easily moved to tears. Too easily. It’s annoying.
  9. I can’t think of a single favorite food. I love everything I eat. I deserve to be fat(ter). As it is I always have that elusive 10 pounds to lose.
  10. I am fascinated by the lives of my blogging friends around the world, most of whom I’ve never met.

My blog nomination choices are a combination of travel, RV travel, photography, history, poetry and humor. I am following dozens of blogs and would like to list them all and have agonized over choosing just 10.

Please visit these blogs and prepare to be amazed:

I wanted to nominate http://multifariousmeanderings.wordpress.com/  for the Sunshine Award but she had the unmitigated gall to accept the self-same award from someone else first!

To accept this award please:

  1. Display the Award on your Blog (nightmare scenario for me. Finally figured it out!)
  2. Announce your win with a post and thank the Blogger who awarded you.
  3. Present up to 10 Bloggers with the Award.
  4. Link your awardees in the post and let them know of they are being awarded with a comment.
  5. List 10 interesting (printable!)  facts about yourself.

And speaking of sunshine, here is a favorite sunshine photo:

  2. Hey, I like cottage cheese as well! You’re not alone 😉 I’ve only ever had it with sliced pineapple, but surely that still counts? Also– I am way way impressed about you being a cook on a charter yacht. I would imagine there are lots and lots of stories there…

    1. Well of course sliced pineapple counts! We are a club of three now! And yes there were lots of stories from the charter yacht – gangsters, lawyers, millionaire busnessmen, models, slick car salesmen, TV personalities – but I didn’t write them down and it was a long time ago.

  3. Aw, thanks Carol. I feel so special. And I learn something new about you all the time….a chef on a yacht….really? Would love to hear more about that adventure. 🙂

    1. Wish I’d been journaling then. Lots of tales to tell. Like the time we had a gangster on board. He came with his lawyer, they brought their girlfriends and phoned home to their wives! The skipper confiscated the gangster’s gun as he got so drunk every day (gin for breakfast) we were afraid of what he’d do! Woohoo! Hope he’s not reading this! 😯

  4. I guess I’ll just have to call you Little Miss Sunshine from now on. 🙂

Congratulations on your award and thank you kindly for spreading your sunshine my way with your nomination. I have previously been nominated for this , but I will treasure you thinking of me for this!

    1. Little Miss Sunshine. That is so not me but I have appreciated being thought of that way. Now I’m a treasure as well! I thought I had checked your site for the Sunshine Award but now that I look again I can see VERY CLEARLY that you have an Awards category, and it is quite full. Congrats. You deserve them for a very inspiring blog! 😉

    1. I don’t know about fascinating. I’ve just been around for a while! I’m so sorry I’ve put voices in your head. I don’t know about you but I’ve got plenty in there already! 😕

  5. Awwww…. I’m feeling all emotional now, that was lovely of you! (SNIFF). We seem to have many things in common apart from blogging. Including the ten kilograms. I so understand your position on feeling you’re an “alien” both at home and abroad – someone kindly told me recently that I had no right to criticise the current French government, because I’m “not a French citizen”… Who needs enemies with friends like that, hey? 😉 I’m with you on the cottage cheese, but it has to have pineapple in it 🙂

    1. That’s just downright spooky!! 😯 I have to have pineapple in mine too! We’ll have to meet up sometime and compare our eating habits and waistlines and commiserate over a glass or three of wine! 🙂

        1. I didn’t say I couldn’t live without cottage cheese. I’m sure the French can come up with something better than that to eat. And that government comment, hasn’t your Monsieur Hollande made a real hash of things? Then again he’s not so different to most/all other governments. Somehow I don’t see you keeping your opinions to yourself! lol

          1. I have been qualified as a “gob on a stick” by one of my friends (endearing terms, hey). I’d say that as a President, Holland is about as useful as a bottle opener in a mosque, but that’s just my opinion. I have the right to pay my taxes, but not to vote in the Presidential or legistlative elections – unless I become French, which I have no intention of doing. Funnily enough, one of his promises is to give the vote to no-French citizens.. I’m guessing he’s keeping that Ace until the end of his season so that he can get back in again 😉

            1. Gob. One of my least favourite words. You’ve spoilt my illusion of you. I’m going to forget you said that. And that Hollande – I hope you start campaigning your French comrades to vote him out at the next election. 😀

  6. Love the photo… love the fact I see my site on the list… hate the fact I don’t do the awards thing but keep the nomination post in a special file. So that when feeling unloved I go and look thru the file and know there is someone out there that thought I was good enough to nominate me and I feel better… so I’ll say thank you for the nomination, but no thank you and consider you a friend never to forget, as you thought I was a little ray of sunshine…
